Extra Activities
Field Trips
Rosehill students enjoy the experience of several field
trips during the regular school year and summer school programs. Past
events have included live professional performances at the Drury Lane
Theatre, a trip to a pumpkin farm in the autumn, bowling
and visiting a police
station.
Dance/Movement
Little bodies have a lot of energy. Included in our
Montessori program is a Dance/Movement class once per week. A skilled
instructor comes into Rosehill to work with the children in small
groups for thirty minutes. During these classes the children are exposed
to different movement activities including jazz, ballet, tumbling
and basic dance moves.
Music
Music is such a vital part of life. Why enroll your
child in a separate music program? Here at Rosehill we include weekly
Kindermusik classes as part of our regular, Montessori program. A
Kindermusik instructor comes to Rosehill each week to work with the
children as a class for thirty minutes. The Kindermusik program nurtures
imagination, creativity and fosters musical growth through opportunities
to move, sing, listen, play, create and interact with the basic elements
of music. There is no additional cost for the music classes, however
there is a nominal fee (charged twice per year) for the Kindermusik
materials. We are pleased to be able to offer this special program
to all of our children.
Language
Our children are exposed to more than one language at
Rosehill. One of our teachers, formerly an instructor at an area language
school, now brings a bit of France to Rosehill! Each week she works
with the children teaching the basics of French, such as: numbers,
days of the week, names of animals, simple expressions, directions
and names of objects in the classroom. For more information, please
visit the French Language
Studies section of the web site.
Library
Each week our children visit the Rosehill Montessori
School Library, run completely by a committee of parents who volunteer
to come in and assist children with taking out books. Each child is
allowed to take one book home from our library every week. This is
a popular program for our children, as they love to borrow books from
school. This is a great lesson of responsibility and taking care of
someone elses belongings. The children look forward to visiting
library all week!
Fun Lunch
Rosehill offers our version of Hot Lunch each week.
We call it "Fun Lunch" because all children are invited
to stay for lunch even those who are only enrolled in our morning
program. A Fun Lunch menu will go home three times per school year.
Each family will order lunch for an entire three month period at one
time. Fun Lunch is completely optional. You can pick none, one, some
or all of the weeks for Fun Lunch; it is entirely up to you! Every
week there are two meals to choose from, and one is always a vegetarian
meal so that every family can participate.
Fun Lunch is important to our school for several reasons.
First of all, the parents really like our lunch program as they get
a break from packing lunch for their child once per week. They also
like the variety of nutritious meals we serve, as each lunch is a
healthy, well-balanced meal which includes fruits and vegetables.
Fun Lunch is a fundraiser for Rosehill and, as we are a not-for-profit
organization, all proceeds from Fun Lunch go directly back into our
school. This is most definitely a win-win program for Rosehill and
our families all the way around!
Classroom Festivals and Parties
Rosehill students have several in-class festivals
corresponding to the various holidays and seasons of the school
year. Family members are invited to attend the presentations prepared
by the students and teaching staff for such celebrations as the
"The Festival of Lights" (winter celebration) and the
Thanksgiving Celebration. Also much looked forward to is the annual
"Dad's Night" and "Mom's Tea" events in which
the students bring their parents into the classroom and their world.
During this one-on-one time they can proudly show to their father
or mother the many things they do each day in school.
