1.  Parent Participation
As a parent run, not-for-profit organization, Rosehill relies heavily on you, our most valuable resource. When parents help with some of the maintenance repairs, cleaning, painting, and etc. this frees up funds for other school necessities. As you know, each family is required to contribute 20 hours of volunteer time per year. The $200 volunteer fee you submit will be refunded at the beginning of the next school year (or rolled over to the next year) provided you complete the 20-hour minimum. When you leave today, please take a few minutes to review the volunteer checklist you will take with you and sign up for as many areas as you can. You will discover many ways throughout the school year in which you can assist in your child’s educational process, easily meeting or exceeding your 20-hour commitment. Also, throughout the course of the year, please let us know if you have any other ideas/ways in which you can contribute to Rosehill. Your ideas are always welcome!

2.  Committees
We will be focusing on building strong committees this year. Please see the attached information about our committees and take some time to think about what committee(s) you are best suited for. Our parent committee association is entitled ROMP (ROsehill Montessori's Parent association). You will discover how rewarding it is to be an important part of your child’s school.

3.  Tuition Payment Arrangements
Tuition is our only source of income. Tuition is due by all parents on the first day of every month. All payments should be placed in the Payment Box, which will be located on the wall in the school office. The late tuition policy is as follows: if tuition is not paid by the 5th of the month, an automatic $15.00 late fee will be added to your amount due. Each additional day after the 5th of the month, an extra $1.00 will be added per day, until the tuition is paid in full. If for any reason you are unable to meet the policy guidelines or if you have any questions, please contact the School Administrator.

If you need to make any special arrangements for tuition (i.e. splitting payments between two people, changing the date you make your payment, paying bi-weekly, etc.) there will be a $20.00 service charge added to your monthly tuition for processing. For a detailed breakdown of tuition and additional program fees, please refer to this site's Enrollment Information page.

4.  Fundraising
Each year our tuition budget covers about 85% of our operating expense. We try to keep tuition increases level with the increasing cost of living. The remainders of our operating expenses are covered by other income and voluntary support, of which fundraising is critical. Please keep in mind that when we have a fundraiser, all of the money raised goes directly back into the school. Fundraising participation can be done by helping with the sale of the items, as well as by making purchases.

5.  Additional Hourly Fees
If your child needs to be here earlier or later than his/her scheduled program, there is an additional charge of $10.00 per hour. Please contact someone in the school office to make arrangements as soon as you know you will need additional care. We will try to accommodate you whenever possible, however, it will be up to the teacher’s discretion. We must take into consideration the number of children in attendance at the time you are requesting, and ensure that we will be adequately staffed to accommodate any additional children. Please be aware that if you do not pick your child up on time or your child is here during hours he or she is not scheduled for, we will bill you on next month’s tuition statement at the rate of $10.00 per hour. If you expect your child to regularly require early arrival or extended care hours, you might consider utilizing our Extended Care Program. It's a great way to help out busy families!

Children enrolled in our three-day program may not switch attendance days from week to week, whether due to an absence, school closing or any other reason as staff members are scheduled according to the number of children here each day. Children in the three-day program who attend school on a day they are not scheduled for will be billed extra for that day at the $10.00 per hour rate. When we are having functions at school, such as, parties or other special days, the teachers will invite the three-day children, should the function be held on a day that the child does not usually attend.

6.  Arrivals and Dismissals
When dropping off or picking up your child during our designated arrival/dismissal times, we ask that you enter through the gate's smaller "west" opening (on the right as you face the school) and pull around to the front of the porch. Please make sure that your child is seated on the passenger side of the car so that he or she can easily exit the automobile. A staff member will come out to get your child or bring him/her out to you. You can exit out of the lot through the gate's larger "east" opening (on the left side as you face the school). Our scheduled arrival and dismissal times are as follows:

8:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
11:45 a.m. to 12:00 noon
12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
2:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The staff members handling arrivals and dismissals do their best with getting the children in and out quickly. Please do not enter the east side of the gate at any time during arrival or dismissal times. If you need to enter the school at any time during these times, please park in our lot across the street at 1208 Lisle Place. There have been times when parents leave the line and come in the exit, and this is a serious safety issue. In order to keep arrival and dismissal times running smoothly, we do not allow parents to park in the school parking lot during these times. Please be considerate and if you park in the lot right before an arrival or dismissal time is about to occur, make sure that you exit the lot before that time starts.

7.  Pickup Authorizations
We must have a parent's written authorization for us to release your child to someone else. We ask that you complete a Pick Up Authorization Form whenever someone other than those people listed on your emergency card will be picking your child up. As a precaution, we always ask for a photo ID whenever the person is unfamiliar to us. Please know that we will not release your child to anyone without your authorization. In the event of an emergency, please call and speak directly to the Administrator or your child's teacher and be sure to provide all of the information about the person picking up your child; name, time of pickup, type of car, etc. We will check that person's identification to be sure.

8.  School Supplies
Children should have a complete set of extra clothing that is weather appropriate at school as well as inside shoes and a backpack. The children in our expanded and all day programs also need a toothbrush and toothpaste, and those napping will need a blanket and small pillow. The items that we consider to be community-use items such as pencils, paper, erasers, etc, will be purchased with the school supply fee.

9.  Clothing
Children should come to school in comfortable "play clothes" that are easy for them to remove and put on by themselves. Sturdy, closed-toed shoes are a necessity on the playground and on nature walks. The children spend time outside daily (weather permitting) so be sure your child is dressed for the weather. Please be sure to LABEL all backpacks, shoes, coats, hats, mittens, boots, etc., as there has been confusion in the past. We will keep a lost and found box in the front foyer for unidentifiable items.

10.  Lunch
Please send your child's lunch in a lunch box, clearly labeled with his/her name. Lunch should be nutritionally balanced and follow the school's nutrition guidelines. We will provide milk, juice or water. Please do not send candy, chips, fruit snacks, gum, soda pop, etc. as most of these foods contain no nutritional value and distract the children from eating the more wholesome parts of their lunches. Food that is not eaten will be rewrapped and sent home. We have limited refrigerator space, so please use an ice pack if the lunch needs to be kept cool. Each classroom has a microwave oven, so leftovers can be reheated. Please review the Nutrition Guidelines prior to the start of the school year.

11.  Nap
Preschoolers that remain at Rosehill until 2:45 p.m. or later will rest in our downstairs room. Your child should keep a blanket and small pillow at school. Children eligible for Kindergarten next year, (2003–04 School Year) will go down for a short rest period (thirty minutes) and then have an opportunity to work in the classroom. We are offering this for children who are not ready or eligible for Kindergarten, but are outgrowing their nap times. A child who is having a difficult day and needs to sleep, falls asleep during rest time or is not eligible for Kindergarten next year will sleep for the entire nap period.

12.  Snack and Food Preparation
Part of our Practical Life curriculum involves the preparing, serving, sharing and eating of different foods. We also provide a morning and afternoon snack for children during the day.

13.  Laundry
We always appreciate your help with keeping our materials clean and beautiful. We ask for your cooperation in sharing the chore of doing our class laundry (towels, tablecloths, aprons, nap sheets, rugs, etc.) The children use all of these items daily, so your help is important. The procedure is to take the laundry home on the last day of the week and return it the first school day of the following week. Young children enjoy activities that adults often think of as chores, so please encourage your child to help. Be sure to notice your turn on the monthly calendar. If the time is inconvenient, feel free to exchange with another family and inform us of the change.

14.  Health Policies
Please call the school when your child is ill and notify us of an absence. If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness, please call and notify the office so that we may alert other parents. Make sure that all of the emergency information on your child's enrollment form and health emergency card is correct. If we cannot reach you, we will call the contacts listed on the form. If your child is sent home with a fever or diarrhea, he or she will not be allowed to return to school the next day.

Children must be free of fever and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school. This does not include the use of fever reducing medicine. In order to administer medication to your child, we must have the original prescription bottle with your child's name and all other information on it. We cannot give any nonprescription medicine without written consent from your child's physician. Please see the expanded HEALTH POLICIES sheet.

15.  Correspondence
You will receive all of your mail via the hanging, mail folders in the school office. At dismissal times, the staff member bringing children out to the cars will hand your mail to you. If you walk your child in and out of school, please check your folder on a daily basis. We will provide each family with a large, brown envelope as a means of sending your mail in. Once we receive mail from you, we will return the brown envelope to you for the next time that you have mail to send in. There will be an in box located on the office desk and parents will be responsible for placing all of their mail in that bin. If you use the arrival/dismissal line, please hand your mail directly to the staff member and she will place it in the box for you. Please do not leave mail inside your child's backpack. The teachers will not be checking backpacks. You may send payments in the brown envelope or use the payment box located on the office wall. If you do not send your mail in the brown envelope, please do not leave loose checks in the in the payment box.

16.  Discipline Policy
If there becomes a pattern of disruptive behavior in the classroom, the supervising teacher shall begin to document the behavior and send incident reports home to the parents. If the behavior is excessive there will be a conference called between the parents and the teachers at which time a behavior modification plan shall be discussed and agreed upon. If the behavior continues and the teacher feels it is harmful to the atmosphere of the classroom and the behavior plan is not working, the child will be observed by a behavior psychologist provided by the Illinois State Health Department or one of your choosing. Recommendations will then be made as to how best to deal with the behavior. If the parents choose not to follow the plans laid out by the psychologist, the school may choose to terminate the child's enrollment.

17.  Birthdays
Birthdays are another time to share a treat. Because we are an educational institution, we feel that we must promote the cause of good nutrition. Therefore, we ask that you always provide treats made from the purest and simplest ingredients, avoiding sugar, sodium, and additives whenever possible. In the interest of the class as a whole, we cannot serve foods with low or no nutritional value. Please review the attached Healthy Birthday Treats guide.

When we celebrate a Birthday, we like to tell the child's life story. We ask that you send a few pictures and/or a short written description of your child's milestones, and you are welcome to come and help your child share them with the class.

Your child may want to give a Birthday present to the class such as a special book or monetary donation. A gift given by your child on the occasion of his/her Birthday encourages learning to give graciously and to share. Also, if you are having a Birthday party outside of Rosehill, we ask that you mail your invitations from home.

18.  Kindergarten Program
Children having attained their 5th Birthday by September 1st, whom are currently enrolled students of Rosehill, have priority enrollment in the afternoon Kindergarten program.

Members of the community who are interested in enrolling in the Kindergarten program and whose children have attained their 5th Birthday by September 1st shall have the next enrollment preference. After priority enrollment, parents of Rosehill children with September Birthdays who have missed the cut-off date may choose to enroll their children in the program with the recommendation of the lead teacher for Junior Kindergarten. This option will be available only if we have not reached full enrollment in the Kindergarten program by the start of the school year. In this instance it is understood that the child will have two Kindergarten years at Rosehill and that there will be a trial period of four weeks. If after four weeks the Kindergarten teacher does not feel the child is adjusting to the program, he or she will be removed and placed back into the regular preschool program. At this time, parents will have the option of changing the child's hours without a penalty or fee. If during the course of the morning the lead teacher feels it is necessary for the child to have a rest period for the day or if the child displays exceptionally disruptive behavior during the course of the afternoon, the school may choose to have the child take a quiet rest period. If the situation becomes a regular occurrence, the parents will be notified and the needs of the child will be re-evaluated.
